More and more retailers have implemented logistic systems within the organizations. In fact, front-end marketing and operating activities are often adjusted to accommodate with the efficiency of the logistic system. Distribution Center built by Retailer (Re.D.C ) was the warehouse center of retailer , to prepare enough inventory in order to provide the goods just in time. However, customers often change their minds and the lifecycle of product is getting shorter and shorter. If the inventory was not well managed, it may cause severe damage to the retailers. Since the Re.D.C provides various merchandises, it’s important for the Re.D.C to make the right decision throught IT solution to avoid the risk of the wrong decision.
This study focuses on the inventory decision-making system in Retailer’s Distribution Centerand explore the effect of internal and external environment, IT applications and policy on the inventory decision and performance According the results of exploration and the literature of the knowledge management, to the study tries to construct a framework for the knowledge-management based Inventory Decision Support System.
By case studies and interview with Distribution Centers the main results are as following:
1.An adaptive inventory decision is relatively important due to the fluctuation of external environment.
2.The inventory decision-making experience of individual and organization influences the quality and outcome of inventory control.
3.The quality of inventory decision support system (DSS) influences the performance of inventory decision-making.
4.The IT policy of an organization is effective on the development of adaptive inventory decision support system.
5.The adaptive inventory decision support system cannot be implemented through traditional development methodogy of information system.
6.To use knowledge management view to develop an adaptive inventory decision support system.
