Since then, SARS was reported in Vietnam, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan and resulted in a high mortality rate in these countries. At 2003 March 15, the disease was officially named SARS by the WHO. The reason that the morbidity rate of medical staffs dealing with SARS in Taiwan was higher than other countries listed above was thought to be related to the lack of the knowledge about SARS. Among the medical staffs, the basic level nurses were the first line staff members that will be directly facing the patients with SARS, and play the important role in dealing with the disease. This study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and behavior of the basic level nurses toward SARS. A constructional questionnaire including the basic characteristics of population, knowledge, attitude, disease awareness, information source, and preventable behaviors of SARS were designed and used as the tool. Results: 1.A total of 332 basic level nurses were selected randomly in Taichung city and Taichung County for our research, with a response rate of 25 %. 2. The basic level nurses did apparently lack knowledge about the infection routes of SARS. 3. Most of the nurses didn''''t want to be known even if she was a patient with SARS, and also didn''''t want to keep contact with any friend if they were a patient with SARS. 4. The more correct knowledge about SARS that the nurses had, the more positive preventive attitude the Nurse would have. 5. The TV news is the most frequent way used by the nurses in getting the information about SARS.1. improving knowledge about SARS to the basic level nurses will be helpful in dealing with SARS. 2. It is important how to use the TV program effectively for educating the basic level nurses about SARS in the future. Si-Hsien Chou Su-Chuan Yuan 周希諴 袁素娟 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 82 zh-TW
