碩士 === 中山醫學大學 === 口腔醫學研究所 === 92 === In designing a dental prosthesis, the number, the periodontal condition, and the locations of the abutments are some important factors which need to be taken into consideration. This case report will present the decision-making and the treatment procedures of a full mouth rehabilitation. This patient had only 7 teeth left in the maxillary arch. Two of them showed severe caries under the prostheses. Tooth #22 was broken during the removal of the existing crown and was extracted after the evaluation. Tooth # 23 and 24 were used as the abutments after the crown-lengthening procedure which is for the ferrule effect and the biological width. This patient refused to have the removable prosthesis or dental implants, so the telescopic prosthesis was used to restore the maxillary dentition. In the mandibular arch, to minimize the adverse effect of a pier abutment, a bridge with a cantilever pontic was used to restore # 33 to 37. The telescopic prosthesis includes a primary coping which is cemented to the nature tooth and a superstructure which is on the primary coping. It is very helpful in the compromised dentition since it can be removed for cleaning and the superstructure could be modified if there is any primary coping fails in the future.
