The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effect on the hardware complexity and system performance of the baseband transceiver caused by the number of quantization levels of soft-decision Viterbi decoding for the IEEE 802.11a system. First, a MATLAB simulation environment for the baseband transceiver of the IEEE 802.11a system will be developed. Based on the MATLAB simulation environment, the system performance will be simulated and analyzed. Secondly, for the scrambler/descrambler,interleaver/deinterleavr, and subcarrier modulation mapper/demapper of the baseband transceiver,the FPGA hardware implementation will be completed .
