In this cross-sectional survey, the investigator adopted the Parent Self-Differentiation Scale , the Child Self-Differentiation Scale, and the Chinese Codependency Assessment Tool to collect data.Four hundred and Fifty three subjects (151 couples and their children) were recruited. The major results were as follows : First, the degree of self-differentiation in the 5th and 6th graders’ parents was moderate, and the gender did not make significant difference. Second, the degree of self-differentiation in the 5th and 6th graders was moderate, and there was no significant difference among different gender pupils. Third, the degree of codependency in the parents was mild, and the gender did not make significant difference. Fourth, parents’ self-differentiation correlated negatively with codependency. That is the higher of the parents’ self-differentiation, the lower their codependency. Fifth, the self-differentiation of parents correlated positively with their children’s. That is the higher the parents’ self-differentiation, the higher their children’s. Sixth, there was no significant relation- ship between parents’ codependency and their children’s self-differentiation. Seventh, the predictors of children’s self-differentiation were their parents’ self-differentiation, the affection between children and fathers, and the relationship between children and mothers, which explained 17.1% of variation(F=10.099, p<.01).Among them, the most important predictor was parents’ self-differentiation which measured 9.4% of variation. The result mentioned above are discussed and the directions of the study in the future are suggested. Furthermore, several applications to the clinical heath providers are offered. Key words: 5th and 6th grader, self-differentiation, codependency. Yi-Wen Wang 王怡文 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 167 zh-TW
