Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 資訊工程研究所 === 92 === Advances in multimedia processing techniques have rendered considerable leverage in the efficacy of multi-modal information retrieval. Images are among the primary media in a multimedia database. With the amount of stored images growing, it is essential to capture, index, and recall the images of interest, beyond simple text-based search, in an efficient manner. In this paper, we present our ongoing study with the aforementioned respect on Chinese jades. We propose and design an integrated software system that captures content-based information from the imaged jades, and extracts as many as 23 features in terms of shapes, texture, colors and image histograms. As a systematic approach, in addition to the central pattern extraction and recognition issues, this work also deals with background-ruler-and-object dissection, jade orientation rectification, efficient boundary tracking, and classification and matching in the database. The proposed approach and algorithms are well applicable to engineering drawings and office documents/forms as well.
