It switches a suitable beam to transmit and receive the desired signal while reduces the surrounding interferences to raise the ratio of signal to interference and noise. This work designs a compact high-performance four-beam Butler beam-former, which consists of proposed new multilayer spur-line couplers and Schiffman phase shifters. By comparing with the conventional Butler matrix, the proposed structure enhances 30 % bandwidth, and the circuit size is only 20 %.
