Reflecting on other countries’ plebiscite systems and Taiwan’s past experiences, we can make the most of our unique situation to help enhance our countrymen’s political participation and to prevent political conflicts. This is very important and desperately needed. The passing of the plebiscite law is an important milestone of Taiwan’s democratic deepening. However, judging from the continued controversy on the plebiscite, Taiwan must establish a plebiscite mechanism, which can maintain the peaceful development of Cross-Strait relations and sustain the political stability domestically.
