Summary: | 碩士 === 真理大學 === 管理科學研究所 === 92 === The purpose of this research is using a semi-conductor industry in Taiwan (Silicon Integrated Systems) as research subject, to investigate the relationship between the 12-h shift work, sleep quality, and working conditions of employees. In understanding how the sleep quality of different work shifts affects the working conditions of employees, we have adopted Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) as table of indicators to evaluate the sleep quality of employees over the past month and used Attitude toward Shift Work Scale (ATSS) to analyze the working conditions during the same period.
To collect our data, 400 questionnaires were distributed in the beginning and 239 of them were valid. The percentage of validity is 59.75%. Next, we implemented a statistics software package called SPS and performed several statistical analysis tests such as t test, one way ANOVA analysis, and multiple regression, to determine how the sleep quality of different work shifts affects the working conditions of employees.
Results show that different work shifts make significant influences on the sleep quality and working conditions of employees, and that sleep of high quality have positive effects on the working conditions of employees. This research also revealed that semiconductor manufacturers should pay attention to the sleep quality of working employees in order to reduce accidents resulted from jobs, there by enhancing their job performance. For those employees who belong to ‘high risk group’, the company should provide them with sufficient public health education and relative training to improve their sleep quality, thus enhancing their working conditions.
