This study is to investigate the performance evaluation of 95 public vocation high schools in Taiwan, which include 12 municipal public vocational high schools and 83 common cities pubic vocational high schools. Input variables including number of teachers, number of staffs, budget and settled account of expenditure, number of library book, area of school and building and output variables including number of students, number of graduates, number of graduates advance studies and number of graduates obtain employment were used. Based on the CCR, BCC, A&P, SBM model of data envelopment analysis the overall efficiency、scale efficiency、technical efficiency mix efficiency and the difference of category were assessed. Additionally, analysis of the slack of input and surplus of output of these schools are used to identify whether vocational high school is real efficient units and thus the direction of adjustment in inputs and outputs can be identified to promote efficiency. Besides, the categorical DEA is to investigate which school has real efficiency under limited resource allocation.
The resultants show that inputs except number of library book, and area of school and building of municipal public vocational high schools is significantly larger than the one of common city one, which results from the unreasonable allocations of education expenditure. The average efficiency of municipal public vocational high schools is larger than the one of common city one. Overall efficiency, mix efficiency and scale efficiency except for technical efficiency are significantly different between and common city public vocational high school, i.e., there is different with category. Besides, municipal public vocational high schools base on categorical data envelopment analysis, Hua-Nan Senior Commercial Vocational School, Haishan Industrial Vocational high School, Chung—Li Senior Vocational School Of Commerce, Yingko Vocational High School and Hsin-Chu Industrial Vocational high School truly are really efficient unit, and thus the performance is up to the management ability of officer of school.
