However, the Special Education Classes in the elementary schools just as one part of it, so the schools maybe don’t take the Special Education Classes as a important part to fit the needs of the special children in space planning aspect. There are a lot of domestic studies focus on the teaching methods and theories of the handicapped children. However, there are fewer researches about the teaching environment planning for the handicapped. Many literatures focus mainly on the teaching space planning of the Special Education Class rather than the overall planning and Siting of the Special Education Class under the whole school environment. However, the teaching activities of the teachers and students in Special Education Class are not limited in interior spaces. There are three purposes of the Study which as follows: (1) The study try to find out the target cases’ planning and siting relationships of the Special Education Classes with the school entrance and exit, counseling office, health center, normal class classroom and the schoolyard under the overall campus space planning to divide and compare and advantages and disadvantages of different space planning condition. (2) The study want to discuss whether the special classroom for the Special Education Classes can fit the needs for special education program teacher and student’s teaching and learning activities. (3) The study want to discover the current situation and problems. The main purpose of the study is to discuss the planning and siting of the mentally handicapped class through the interview with the teachers in the mentally handicapped class and try to observe the teaching spaces of the mentally handicapped class to find out the problem. Moreover, the study also assessing the overall planning and sitting situation of the cases and try to provide some suggestions for the mentally handicapped classroom design within elementary schools in the future. The study takes Chia.Yi City’s eleven mentally handicapped classes within the elementary schools as the cases to discover the planning and siting problems faces by Special Education’s teachers and students in the school. The study try to discuss the planning and siting relationships between the mentally handicapped class and the school entrance and exit, counseling office, health center, normal class classrooms and schoolyard. Moreover, the study tries to find out the organizational relationships between mentally handicapped class’ three special classrooms. Furthermore, the study also discusses the current teaching spaces planning for the three special classrooms. The study also discusses the status quo of the interior space planning of the three special classrooms. The study tries to find out the reality of how the special education teachers and students use those three special teaching spaces by the environment and behavior observing methods to find out the problems of the special education classrooms. The study concludes that in the campus planning and siting related aspects, the schoolyard design has great difference compare with what the literature suggestion. Other items have some similar and different aspects except schoolyard. Three special classrooms are the teaching spaces that should be obtained in the Special Education Class. However, there are only five cases within the eleven have those three special classrooms. The literature suggests that the static and dynamic spaces had better set in different floors or the non.neighbor places. Those suggestions have some differences with the real using experience. In the chartered teaching interior spaces part has some differences compare to existing research due to the different research period will find out some different problems.
