Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系碩士班 === 91 === Dictionaries are indispensable handbooks for learning. The usability, legibility and readability are the most important considerations when editing dictionary layout. The purpose of this research is to explore the best editing design of Chinese dictionary. To achieve this aim, this research has adopted three different methods. First, study the existing articles and documents. Second, collect comprehensively and extensively the information of Chinese dictionary in present. Third, obtain concrete conclusions through three steps of experiment, and provide the findings as reference material for publishing industry and the education of Visual Communication Design. The three steps of experiment are: First of all, use Likert’s scale as the rating method to conduct a survey of imagery on the on-the-shelve dictionaries; analyze the imageries revealed by the sample dictionaries; find out the common factors which result in the imageries of the sample dictionaries; and sum up the types of imageries and their characteristics. Next, ask the subjects to rank their overall evaluation on the layout of these sample dictionaries. Finally, integrate the findings of the first and second survey; modify the layouts of these sample dictionaries into new designs; sieve out initially the better ones by interviewing experts; and then re-do the user’s survey of imagery and ranking to obtain the best and most legible layout. The results of this research are: (1) It is worse to have three columns on each page and a frame on top of the Headwords. (2) Descriptive text with single line-width is comfortable and easy to read, and is pleasing to our eyes as a whole. (3) The breakthrough design of indenting the first word can outstand the Headwords and Phrases, make it easier to understand fully at a glance. (4) The typeface of the Headwords, no matter in Standard Style or Normal Style, will not affect the overall imagery of the layout. (5) A headline with bracket 【】or white words on black background can enhance the visual attraction.
