Abstract
Taiwan has built up its competitiveness in high-tech related hardware manufacture industry. However, due to the matured of the PC market, it is hard for Taiwan’s OEM-based high-tech manufacture industry to maintain the high growth rate as before. Taiwan has built up its IC Design industry’s global competitiveness in recent years The research applies the descriptive way as the research method and collects secondary data from some professional industrial reports and magazines to do data analysis.
The research focuses on the competitive advantage analysis of Taiwan IC Design industry by Michael Porter’s National Competitive Diamond and it also chooses two of Taiwan’s market leading IC Design Houses, MediaTek and Genesys Logic to do the SWOT Analysis in order to find out the global competitive advantage of Taiwan’s market leading IC Design Houses.
After the SWOT Analysis, the research concludes that there are five main competitive advantages for Taiwan’s market leading IC Design Houses: (1) focus on the R&D of innovative products (2) focus on consumer electronics related IC Designing (3) be the total solution provider in specific niche market (4) have sophisticated SOC Designing ability and (5) have sufficient support of the IC Wafer Foundry.
