These nonlinear loads generate a lot of current harmonics that make the quality of the power system worse. In order to eliminate these harmonics, most literatures employ the active power filter to solve the above problems. However, these control strategies are more complicated and need two current sensors or more, increasing the system cost. The purpose of this thesis is to design a single-phase digital active power filter, which adopts the structure of shunt active power filter and utilizes the concept of energy balance, to simplify the control method. Only one current sensor and two voltage sensors are required to detect the mains current, the dc bus voltage and the mains voltage. The digital signal processor (TMS320F240) is used to implement the simple control method. The proposed method features both harmonic elimination and power correction.
