碩士 === 臺南藝術學院 === 博物館學研究所 === 91 === Numbering and marking are two of the primary registration procedures for the museum collections. Once the objects have been registered and numbered, the museum staff has to mark it properly. It is important to keep the numbers clear and visible, otherwise one can neither get the track to its category system and storage position, nor to connect it to all the related documentation. The technique of marking varies due to museum collection consists of various materials and varieties. To choose the proper marking method both the principles of collection management and conservation must be considered. To realize how to do it right and how to solve the problems that may occur during the marking process, comprehensive studies on the previous papers and internet information have been made. To understand the current marking problems in Taiwan museums, storage survey and staff interview have been done for three small public local museums. The results of this research reveals that lacks of marking skills, references and guidance, and the inactive multi-interaction experiences, etc., are the major factors which affect the quality of marking in small public local museums in Taiwan. To solve the problems and to reach the professional standard of museum collection management, it is necessary to provide a series of training programs, including the marking technique, and to create a professional interaction discussing space on website.
