碩士 === 臺北市立師範學院 === 音樂藝術研究所 === 92 === "The Gleaners," a general cultural monthly, was published from May 1950 to February 1998 with a total of 562 issues. In its almost half-century existence, The Gleaners printed numerous translated essays on Western classical music (genres, biographies, hi-fi and record reviews), and since the reformed issue no. 463 (November 1989), originally written columns on musical life in Taiwan. By studying the history of this influential publication, the contents and editors and translators of its music articles, and the reader's response, this thesis provides fundamental research for further studies in music history, history of music education and community music education of post-war Taiwan.
