The developed countries such as United States, Japan and Korea focus on the wireless communication business that we called the third-generation (3G) cellular applications and services. According to the recent data estimation that there will be over one billion subscribers of the Internet users who may access the Internet for e-mail, on-line chat, information sharing and e-business services. Meanwhile, the above applications could be utilized by handset to replace the computer terminal in the 3G environments. Each application becomes the huge business opportunities in the 3G.
Although there is a long way to achieve the 3G deployment and applications, we would like to know whether the 3G has the business opportunity or the competitive advantage in the wireless mobile industry, in particular for network infrastructure makers, equipment providers, content providers, operators, handset manufactures, etc.
This paper adopts case study by using Professor Tsai’s MERSI method to evaluate the following topics for telecom component — power amplifier module. The MERSI means mind, ecosystem, resources, strategy and implementation. Through the MERSI method that evaluates the interactive relationship between the industries, environments and corporations to further understand whether Taiwan Telecom Companies have a business opportunity, have developing power amplifier module’s opportunity and have an advanced competitiveness in the 3G trends.
Based on the finding, this study suggests several opinions for the Taiwan Telecom Companies to become more competitive in the 3G markets.
