Summary: | 碩士 === 淡江大學 === 建築學系 === 91 === This thesis is focused on issues of personal safety that are experienced by people in the highly urbanized city of Taipei. Designs for five underground passes in Chung-Shan North Road are proposed in attempt to respond problems of physical as well as psychological safety. The arguments start from the observation on public streets that are tightly related to people’s daily lives, and examine the sense of danger and insecurity that may be felt by five different user groups. In addition, underground passes are considered an environment type that requires particular design to enhance the use and the degree of safety for different users.
Based on issues regarding different facets of safety, and the existing urban contexts, themes for crossing the underground passes are developed. They include (1) the Taipei story of tubes for children, (2) a showcase of light and speed for teenagers, (3) The stage of skirts and shoes for office ladies, (4) The reflection of life in light and trees, (5) The place to slow down. It is hoped that by proposing the designs of theses fives underground passes in Chung-Shan N. Road, not only the problems of underground environment safety can be emphasized, but also new and different experiences for passing can be experimented.
