According to the fact that informal sector are still at the stage of “conjecture”, there are various research approaches adopted by foreign and domestic researchers to analyze this sort of economic phenomenon, and, in addition, the arguments and definition concluded by them are remaining difference with each other. Thus, this thesis views the informal sector as a realistic phenomenon for the purpose to understand it clearly. In the process of reading reference and arrange information and data, this thesis systematically analyzes those followings with the consideration of the factors of time and space: (1) the particularities of informal sector, (2) the features of economic regime in Peru, (3) de Soto’s ideas of economic development and (4) political implications and inspiration induced from de Soto’s ideas of economic development. In addition to documental analysis, this thesis also adopts the historical method introduced by Fernand Braudel, a historian of Ecole des Annales, and the concept of national economic regime as methods of research. With regard to the structure of research and the arrangement of chapters in this thesis, the content of this thesis is divided into two parts. Chapter two and three are set out as the first part of this thesis, which are focused on the analysis of Peruvian informal sector and its economic development by utilizing Fernand Braudel’s historical-structural approach. Furthermore, Chapter four and five are structured as the second part of this thesis, which extend the analysis and content of previous two chapters and, additionally, emphasize the discussion on de Soto’s ideas of economic development and his action.
