R. V. Schmidt reported the reversed direction coupler that can adjust coupling length through voltage tuning, even if the coupler length is not an odd multiple of the coupling length.
In this paper, we propose the performance of directional coupler which can be optimized by the variation of a number of design and fabrication parameters, such as diffusion depth, thickness of the titanium layer, waveguide width, waveguide gap and coupler length. In addition, we utilize several 2×2 reversed direction couplers to form 4×4 optical switch. Furthermore, we have demonstrated the crosstalk of 4×4 optical switch can be reduced to —50dB by two independence electrode voltages.
