Regarding to time-delay systems, inputs with error and variation of error variables can’t improve the transient produced by delay. Therefore, this thesis proposes a novel fuzzy PID controller structure that reduces influence of time delay. Different from conventional controllers, besides error consideration, time variable is an additional input variable of the fuzzy controller. According time variation, different control signal is applied. Furthermore, to design the fuzzy controller with the optimal control performance, this thesis uses the genetic algorithm (GA) to adjust membership function and scaling factors to make the whole closed-loop system has better dynamic response. Finally, from the results of computer simulations the influence of time delay can be reduced effectively by the proposed fuzzy rules of time variable, especially for large delays. GA also can optimize the dynamic behavior of system. Comparing with conventional fuzzy PID controller, the proposed fuzzy controller has better performance and robustness in the presence of time-variation delays and large delays.
