The effect of reaction conditions on the selectivity and yield of 3.5-dimethyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2.6-dimethyl-4- hydroxybenzaldehyde was studied.In addition, the kinetics of 2.4.6- TMP oxidation was established. Experimental results indicated that the catalysts had the following order of performances: CuCl/MCM41>CuCl/SiO2>CuCl/MCM48>Cu(NO3)2/SiO2>CuCl/sol-gel>FeCl.nH2O/SiO2 The CuCl/McM41 had the highest yield (84.6%) and selectivity (82.7%) of 3.5-dimethyl-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde at 70℃ The kinetics study indicated that the 2.4.6-TMP oxidation was a pseudo-first order reaction, with the activation energies E1=58.198KJ/mole , E2=60 KJ/mole for CuCl/SiO2 and CuCl/MCM41, respectively ,E2=35 and 29 KJ/mole for CuCl/SiO2 and CuCl/MCM41, respectively.
