Most researches of production planning and scheduling consider their identified problem for the optimization, but most of them focus on one specific issue, such as which item must be outsourced. Some researches simplify the problem by fixing the relationship between the production units. In practice, production network is a hierarchical and variable structure, each unit has its own objective and different objectives may conflict. Therefore, planning and scheduling should be solved by considering each production unit simultaneously. In this research, we present a production scheduling model, including hierarchical and variable relationship units, to provide a basis for advanced planning and scheduling (APS). First, we present a production constraint-network to model the hierarchical and variable relationship of production system. Second, we use genetic algorithm (GA) to construct a decision sequence. Third, we use the constraint-network and decision sequence to define the operation scheduling sequence. Finally, we schedule all production units based on the scheduling sequence. The proposed GA will search the combinations of the scheduling sequence and reaches the optimum. At the same time, we can consider objectives of all units simultaneously by using the model and the fitness function of GA.
