Description
Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 護理學研究所 === 91 === Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of music therapy on major depression and physiology index.. The design of this study is pre-post test quasi- experimental. The neurosis ward of a Kaohsiung municipal hospital is used to obtain the samples. The subjects are patients, who have been diagnosed by a neurosis physician with major depression. The case is receiving in sequence, and 27 patients are in each experimental group and control group. Music therapy was conducted on the experimental group for 14 days, once a day for 30 minutes. The subject’s physiology index (including blood pressure, pulsation, breath and finger temperature) is measured before and after the music therapy. The music therapy was not been used with the control group. The tools used including: 1. the demographic variables of the subject; 2. evaluation sheet of interest in music (experimental group only); 3. Zung-SDS; 4. Life Events Check list; 5. social support scale; 6. physiology index evaluation sheet (experimental group only). SPSS for Windows Version 10.0 was used to conduct the following statistical analyses: Descriptive Statistics, t - test, Chi-square, Pearson correlation, Point biserial correlation, RM-ANCOVA and paired t-test. The results indicate that after controlling the variables, the status of depression and its four sub-dependant variables (disorder of emotion, physiology, psychology, and psychomotor activities) of the experimental group were reduced compared with the control group. The result has reached significantly in statistics, p < .01. The explaining variance of the music therapy in total melancholy score is 66%. After comparing the difference between the preceding experiment and two other subsequent experiments on the experimental group, p<.01 was found. The result has also reached significantly in statistics. Consequently, the longer the patient listened to music, the lower the melancholy score would be. After music therapy, blood pressure, pulsation and breath of the patient in the experimental group was reduced, and the finger temperature raised: p = .00 ~ .01. The patients also described that uncomfortable psychological feelings such as palpitation and chest tightness disappeared. According to these results, playing soft music, that is familiar to the patients, is strongly recommended to relax the patients in the ward. It not only moderates the symptom of melancholy, but also provides a method to express their emotions. Keyword: music therapy, major depression, physiology index
