| Summary: | 碩士 === 樹德科技大學 === 經營管理研究所 === 91 === Knowledge and innovation are obtained from Research and Development（R&D）. The firms engage in R&D would acquire innovative products and process, and reduce the time to commercialize new products. Thus, R&D is not only able to increase sales but also able to reduce the production cost. To enhance industrial competitiveness and promote the industries upgrade, the government makes many policies to encourage firms to engage in R&D. One of the policies is to establish “Science-Based Industrial Park”.
The main industries in Hshinchu Science-Based Industrial Park are electronic related industry, including IC, PC related, communications and optronics industry. Thus, the targets of this study are the stock public issued electronic related. We separate the firms into three parts, which are located on, neighboring, and off Hshinchu Science-Based Industrial Park. The SFI and TEJ online database are used to collect firms’ financial statement from 1996 to 2001. Then, a multiple regression function was proposed and used to analyze the influence of R&D density（RDI） on the operating performance.
The main findings of this study are as follows: First, the RDI of firms located on science-based park is more significant higher than off science-based park. Second, the operating performance is insignificant between firms located on and off science-based park. Finally, the RDI is negatively related to the operating performance regardless the firms located on or off science-based park or not.
