Summary: | 碩士 === 東吳大學 === 音樂學系 === 91 === Cantatas are not only among most of Bach’s works but one of the most important genres used during Baroque era. However, there are few Chinese literatures about Bach’s Cantatas. Therefore, we sincerely hope the thesis can inspire readers with how Bach composed Cantatas and how a director interprets and performs Bach’s music.
The thesis begins with a brief introduction of Bach’s life, his work’s style and his religious conviction. After studying the historical development of Cantatas and exploring the characteristics of Bach’s Cantatas, we will understand the background of the piece and the relation between lyrics and techniques. Besides, according to the analysis, we will suggest singers and players how to perform it and directors how to interpret its speed, dynamics and tune colors.
Written for Easter Day, the Cantata is rare and different from most other works which describe the birth and suffering of Jesus in musical history. Though Bach’s works are performed frequently in Taiwan, the piece, unusually, is never on the stage. We expect that people may understand it more through the thesis and that it will be performed some day in Taiwan.
