Motivating by the high growth rate and high profitability incentive of hi-tech industries, the traditional industries are getting realized that only transformation will ensure continuous survival and growth in a changing environment. In taking into consideration of transformation or upgrading, the traditional industries should start examining internal and external environment, market position, and resource, etc. The traditional industries should then come to a decision regarding the field of hi-tech industries, ingoing strategy, technical supply and organizational management. The study puts emphasis on exploring the factors necessary for firms to be transformed from traditional industries to hi-tech industries. Overall, findings indicate the following conclusions: 1. Firms in traditional industries which have adopted diversification strategy in transformation process should integrate with transformation mechanism. Implementing related diversification strategy, firms should possess conservative/synergy management motivation, adopt introverted attitude to go into hi-tech industries with internal development of key technology and hold exclusive core resource. Alternatively, implementing unrelated diversification strategy, firms should possess proactive/risk-taking management motivation, adopt extroverted attitude to go into hi-tech industries with external development of key technology and hold mutual core resource. 2. Firms in traditional industries should examine industrial environment cautiously. Findings indicate that industrial environment is a crucial factor to affect the operation performance of a firm. 3. Firms in traditional industries should integrate transformation mechanism with diversification strategy in the process of transforming their operation into hi-tech industries. Findings indicate that implanting transformation mechanism and diversification in transformation should enhance the operation performance of a firm.
