With the whole body of Vernonia, we did study on its chemical constituents and bioactivities. We isolated elevent compounds and one mixture from the Vernonia. All of those compounds occur in several groups, including two sterols : β-sitosterol (1) and sitgmasterol (3), one acidic mixture composed of myristic acid, palmitic acid, linolenic acid (6), one triterpene : lupeol (2), one anomtic acid : 4-octadecyloxy benzoic acid (4), one anomatic ester : bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate (5), one amide : anomalamide (7), and five sequsiterpene with a lactone ring : vernolide-B (8), 2-methyl-but-2-enoic acid11-hydroxy-6-hydroxy-methyl-1,10-dimethyl-5-oxo-4,14-dioxa-tricyclo [9.2.1.03,7]tetradeca-2,6-dien-8-ylester (9) , 8α-Tigloyloxy-hirsutinolide-13-O- acetate (10), 8α-Tigloyloxy-1—oxylmethyl—hirsutino-lide (11), vernolide-C (12)。 Structure of all compounds were identifiend and confirmed by spectroscopy and chemical analysis. And compound 8 and 12 was isolated first time from the nature plant. Moreover, compound 8 and 11,12 exerted considerately cytotoxic activities againt human cancer cell , and especially had better inhibitory effect on cell growth of Human cervial epithelioid carcinoma (HeLa), Human colon adenocarcinoma (DLD-1), Human lung large cell carcinoma (NCI), Mouse hepatoma (Hepa), Human oral epidermoid carcinoma (KB). Podocarpus fasciculus de Laubenfels is evergreen of podocarpus. We found that extracts of Podocarpus fasciculus de Laubenfels have antitumoric action by preliminary bioavtivity assays in vitro, in our lab. And then we did further separation and purification of the plant content. The structure of all compounds we got are elucidated by all measurements of spectroscopy and its chemical characters were also studied. Six compounds were isolated from Podocarpus fasciculus de Laubenfels, including one sterols (13), one alcohol : sequoyitol (14), four flavones : heveaflavone(15),II-4''',I-7-dimethoxyamentoflavone(16),podocarpusflavone-A (17) and cryptomerin B (18). The data from bioactivities assays showed that the four biflavones from Podocarpus fasciculus had different antitumoric action toward different cancer cells. And some further experiments about their antitumoric activities are still under detection.
