ABSTRACT
This study investigates the dynamic response of two-story shear building modal. The study includes two parts. The first part is to vary strength and stiffness of first and second story separately, and then using nonlinear dynamic response history analysis method to investigate the effect of structural story shear force, story drift and ductility demand due to story strength ratio and stiffness ratio. The result of this part shows that when story strength and stiffness reduce, the structural base deformation will increase to reduce the seismic force of upper story.
The second part investigates the structure in collapse state. The effect of structural strength, story shear force, story drift and ductility demand due to story strength ratio and stiffness ratio. The result of this part shows that when upper story and base story collapse at the same time, the structure will have maximum structural strength and maximum top displacement. So we can get the earthquake resistant capacity of structure from its top displacement.
