Optical amplifiers amplify optical signals without any complex optical-electronic or electronic-optical transform and it has many benefits. Such as high gain, high output power, low noise, broadband, independent of the form of signal and the modulation frequency. In the past few years, according to the dramatic increase in information and the rapid developments of multimedia and network communication, the demand for transmission bandwidth grows with each passing day. The transmission band has extended from C-band (1530nm-1565nm) to L-band (1570nm-1610nm). So the amplifier has also extended the amplified band from conventional C-band to L-band. In this paper, the main topic is the design of gain enhancement and gain flatness for L-band EDFA. In which, we study the gain enhancement by 980nm-band pumping and C-band laser injection. For the gain flatness, we use two methods. First, we use a second pumping source, 980nm with 24mW, and 20m EDF. Then we obtain a high gain over 33dB and 1.87dB gain flatness. Second, we just add another 16m EDF without any pumping source after the first stage. Then we obtain a high gain over 31dB and 1.76dB gain flatness. The main feature of this paper is that we combine 980nm band pumping and C-band laser injection. Besides, we do not need too long erbium-doped fiber, too many pumping sources and do not need gain flatten filter to obtain the results of high gain (over 30dB) and a flatness gain spectrum (less than 2dB).
