The analysis shows that the structure of animal agriculture has changed dramatically over the last two decades. Small and medium-sized livestock operations have been replaced by large operations at a steady rate. These changes in animal agriculture have resulted in increased problems associated with the utilization and disposal of animal waste. As livestock production has become more spatially concentrated, in some towns the production of recoverable manure nutrients exceeds the assimilative capacity of all the farmland available for manure. This situation continues worsening, also causing the critical irrigation and river pollution problems. Besides, the ratio of manure nutrients production and assimilative capacity was quantified to find out the nutrients loading of each town. A simple inquiring system was established by using GIS. By this system we could understand the trend and the severity of problems, which provided as a valuable tool for decision makers. Keywords: livestock waste, assimilative capacity, geographic information system. Tsun-Kuo Chang 張尊國 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 93 zh-TW
