Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 商學研究所 === 91 === Thesis Title: Strategy and Analysis of Smart Card Commercial Transaction System Institute: Graduate Institute of Business Administration, National Taiwan University Author: Chen, Chin-Chih Advisor: Dr. Chiang, Jong-Tsong Date: July 2003 In the thesis, we study and analyze the evolution processes of commercial transaction systems of real and virtual world and propose development strategies of the smart card commercial transaction systems. Theoretical framework includes network economic and Camp (2000) “Commerce system analysis”. In chapter 3, the idea and functions of smart card are introduced. Along with the development of technology, the smart cards have evolved from simple memory cards to multi-functional IC cards and even with a microprocessor in it. Compared with conventional payment cards, smart cards need full participants to make the whole system successful such as card and reading-machine manufactures, operation systems suppliers, smart card service providers. In chapter 4, the research primarily focuses on smart cards as personal payment devices in the electronic commercial environments. Systems are classified into closed systems and open systems. The characteristics of each type are analyzed in both real and virtual world. With the analysis of commerce systems, open form smart card systems are compared with other system to find out their development advantages. From the viewpoint of evolution of the payment systems, we try to investigate whether the development of smart cards have interfering relation with other systems. Based on the previous discussion, we propose the development strategies of the closed form system, smart credit card and electronic purse. Our research in chapter five presents and analyzes the development strategy of Mondex Taiwan as a practical example. We propose development strategy to successfully raise network externality from the viewpoint of customer end, and merchant end. Moreover, we also discuss the competition with the closed form smart card systems. Keywords: Smart card, Commercial transaction system, Network economic/network externality, Mondex
