Base upon literature reference, specimen examination, and field survey data compilation, the conclusion was drawn that this organism mainly inhabits the mountainous terrains 1000 meters above sea level and the flat plains of northern and eastern Taiwan. Through indoor captive propagation, its complete life history was documented and the morphology of each instar was illustrated. Fragments of the mtDNA ND5 gene of different populations were sequenced, and the results were used to analyze the phylogeny among the populations. Through the results of the DNA sequence analysis, it was shown that the degree of genetic divergence among each population was high, and that this species potentially has two cryptic species. As a result, further study of the classification of this organism was required. The genetic relationships among the populations would be a great topic of interest in biogeographic studies in Taiwan. The basis of the biology of the rare and protected Formosa False Snail-Eating Ground Beetle (distribution, life history and morphological description, genetic structure of populations) was provided in detail by this study. Furthermore, this study can provide an aid in the development of a tentative conservation plan. Ping-Shih Yang Chung-Hsiung Wang 楊平世 王重雄 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 69 zh-TW
