Two systems are included, one of which is an assemblage of polymeric liquid drops suspended in electrolyte solution. The other is a single spherical polymeric liquid drop in a spherical cavity. We adopt the unit cell model presented by Kuwabara to describe the multi-particle system with a zero vorticity assumption on the virtual surface. We use Carreau fluid model which has a shear thinning property as the constitutive equation of the polymeric liquid drop and Newtonian fluid as the constitutive equation of the electrolyte solution. Therefore, the flow field inside the liquid drop is different from the typical Newtonian fluid. The pseudo-spectral method is used to solve the electrophoretic problem. With the assumptions of low zeta potential and weak applied electric field, we change the value of the fluid model parameter n (the power law exponent) and λ(the relaxation time constant) to see the effect of shear thinning on mobility. We conclude that under lower n and higher λ, thus the shear thinning property is more obvious, higher mobility results and this effect is more apparent in higher κa. Among other observations, we find the boundary effect is more significant in the cavity system than in the unit cell model. Eric Lee 李克強 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 107 zh-TW
