Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 工業工程學研究所 === 91 === Abstract The Built to Order (BTO) production system is a new paradigm in the personal computer industry. But even it is a very popular terminology among the personal computer industry. It still does not have a standard way to interpret and implement the BTO production method. The purpose of this research is to investigate the different modes which were adopted in the Taiwan personal computer industry and study the supply chain management competency for each BTO mode. An investigation was made in this research and different ways of BTO implemented in Taiwan personal computer industry were categorized into four modes: (1) Taiwan direct shipment (TDS), (2) Oversea configuration center, (3) Oversea configuration plant in conjunction with supplier’s warehouse, and (4) Semi-system/modular production. In the meantime, an evaluation model – the Supply Chain Management Competency (SCMC) model developed in this research was used to compare and determine the SCM capability requirements for installing each mode of BTO systems. The performance indicator and evaluation criteria are also developed for every mode of BTO system. It can be used for local firms who decided to implement BTO system without knowing which mode is appropriate for them. The research has found that the management capabilities in procurement, production and information system are the cornerstones for set up any mode of BTO production system. In addition to that, the supplier’s management is also a vital factor for effectively implement the BTO system. It is shown in this research those firms that are using BTO system all have good performances in control of manufacturing, distribution and inventory.
