Abstract
Due to the stimulation of knowledge economy, organizations are more willing to learn. This research emphasizes on discussing how external environment and internal structure influence the learning organization within a school. The goals of this study are the following: 1. Clarify the concept of learning organization and conduct influential factors and patterns of it. 2. Understand the relationship between a school’s external environment factors, internal organization structure and participants in the learning organization activities.
Two following methodologies were selected and adapted: document analysis and questionnaires survey. The analyses refer to relative documents in domestic and international studies. The questionnaires use five-point Liker scale and 1200 teachers teaching at elementary schools and junior high schools are surveyed. The results are analyzed by software SPSS with skills such as factor analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis and path analysis.
Specific conclusions of the study are listed below:
(1) The external environment has a less direct impact on the organizational learning activities. On the other hand, the activities are significantly influenced by the school’s organization structure.
(2) Organizational learning activities are obviously related to the school’s organization structure. By analyzing the questionnaire results, we can know that the leadership of the principal is most effective among the factors. The effects of the culture of the organization and the internal work environment are minor.
(3) The external environment, as a whole, does not affect the school’s learning organization obviously, yet it greatly affects the variables such as “education reform” and “education regulation” in the school’s internal organization structure. These variables are crucial to the modification of learning organization.
