Therefore, this dissertation focuses on analyzing the impact on the wages caused by the men and women’s uneven time on household chores. The data set “Panel Study of Family Dynamics(PSFD)”is utilized in this study. Sure model is employed to estimate the hours allocated to market and nonmarket activity. In particular, the hours allocated to the household chores. To correct the potential sample selection bias, we use Heckman two-stage method to estimate the wage function. Meanwhile, the exogeneity of hours of household chores are examined by the Hausman test. To account for the difference in the time-allocation decision between career women and housewives, we also construct a switching regime model to deal with the positive and zero hour of work. As indicted in the empirical result, both genders will shorten their time of household chores due to a raise in the market wages. The greater numbers of children they have, the more time women spend on household chores; however, the impact on men is not significant. We also find that women with high education have lower hours of work. Meanwhile, the hours of household chores will increase as a raise of her or her husband’s education. The empirical results of wage regression show that the wage will be influenced by his (her) and his (her) couple’s educational attainment positively. Besides, the hours of household chores in both survey year and the year before survey year have a negative impact on the wage rate. However, the hours of household chores in current year influence wage rate in a more negative way than that of last year hours of household chores. 徐美 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 58 zh-TW
