To understand the reasons for watching paranormal TV programs among 5th grade students. 2. To analyze the impact students received by watching paranormal programs. 3. To examine the behavior of parent-child viewing paranormal programs together and it’s effects. 4. To design and then to implement critical viewing courses for students. 5. To explore the possibilities to initiate a media literacy program in elementary school at national level based on the previous outcomes. The study is a quasi-experiment research. Researcher uses pre-test, post-test, questionnaire survey and in-depth interview to collect data from research objects, which includes 60 fifth grade students from Jong-shan Elementary School and 6 parents. The treatment to the experiment group are 80 minutes “critical viewing skills on paranormal TV program” course. Considering the research ethic, researcher conducted similar program to the control group after the post test. Researcher discusses the students’ choices and opinions on the questionnaire, then, comparing the results with parent’s expressions on the paranormal program viewing behavior and reaction. The results are as follow:1. The main reason of 5th grade students watching paranormal programs because is personal interest on this subject.2. The negative impact on children outnumbers it positive effect. 3. students who receive critical viewing skill courses feel less fear comparing with the students in control group. After going through the courses on critical thinking skill, the main reason why the experiment group thinks that watching paranormal programs would not cause any negative effects on their life is “knowing that it’s not 4. Students who had courses on critical viewing skills on paranormal program will apply the skills on other program. Researcher make following suggestions based on the outcome of this research: 1. Media literacy education should be considered as a core course for elementary students. 2. Teachers should enrich their knowledge on media through both pre-service and in-service program. 3. The government information office should take the role as a gatekeeper for the TV program. 4. Education Bureau should launch an overall campaign for media literacy education. 5. Parents ought to pay more attention to the meaning of parent-child viewing. 6.
