Summary: | 碩士 === 國立台北師範學院 === 數理教育研究所 === 91 === This study investigated the characteristic of mathematic problem solving of the elementary school talented students. Twenty-eight talented students from the elementary school of Taipei Hsien participated the study. Beside the written
descriptions of problem solving, through the interview with 6 students of different capability, looking for problem solving strategy, metacognition and attitudes toward mathematic of talented students , and their correlation.
The research results indicated that the most frequently used strategies are set up mathematical expression, analysis relation of the problem, and draw a figure. High capability of problem solver used the three methods to solve mathematic problem much more frequently than low one;and less frequently used the intuitive method , make a table , and try an error method to do it. Students choose the different problem solving strategies by its easy to use, easy to understand, quickly to solve, and less calculated. High capability of problem solver take obviously less time to solve the mathematic problem than low capability. High capable solvers are more frequently use of various metacognitive method such as planning, monitoring activities and checking outcome to solve their mathematic problem than low one. For both high and low capability of mathematic problem solver have same opinion for important of mathematics. For the freedom from fear of mathematics attitude, high capability of problem solver are much more aggressive than low one. The behavior of problem solving and enviorment of mathematic are the most important elements of mathematic problem solving for the talented students.
