But only few studies have attempted to explain and identify the various factors underlying a port’s performance and efficiency. Furthermore, available studies have not provided a satisfactory answer to the problem of making international comparisons of port efficiency. The DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) technique is useful in resolving the measurement of port efficiency because the calculations are non-parametric, can handle more than one output and do not require an explicit and priori determination of relationships between output and input, as is required for conventional estimation of efficiency using production functions. Jose Tongzon (1999) used the DEA method to measure the efficiency of the selected sixteen international ports. In his study, six ports were assessed as being inefficient and ten ports as being efficient. Since those efficient ports are indistinguishable and it is also questionable to rank those inefficient ports according to their efficient coefficients, a study such as this does little help for managers of ports. In this paper, we are going to propose a new procedure, based on DEA, called RDEA (Recursive Data Envelopment Analysis), to rank for all DMUs. RDEA model does not replace the DEA classification model, but instead it offers additional analysis by providing a full ranking of all units, both efficient and inefficient. 李選士 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 61 en_US
