Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 資訊教育研究所 === 91 === Presently there are many computer assistive products developed to assist persons with physical disabilities in operating a computer. However, most of them are designed based on some special requirements, which are suitable for persons with lightly physical disabilities. For persons with heavily physical disabilities, different assistive products are needed at the same time because they usually have multiple physical disabilities. The objective of this research is to develop an integrated alternative keyboard, which serves as a friendly interface between a computer and people with heavily physical disabilities. With this keyboard, they can easily operate and type words with a computer. An 8051 single chip microprocessor is used to control a touch panel, which is responsible for receiving inputs from the user and displaying information. There are three operating modes in using this keyboard, i.e., touch, scan, and Morse code. Persons with different requirements can choose a suitable mode. For persons, who cannot use combination keys, the hot keys and stick keys in this keyboard help them complete the complex actions.
