However, these historical explanations can’t cover properties and factors of all popular uprisings because only by means of the interpretations and analysis of a single case, can it bring the property and the factor of the popular uprising to light. Although the Chang Bing Incident in 1832 is neither the first nor the largest-scale popular uprising in Qing dynasty, it demonstrates certain unique characteristics. Its biggest difference from the other popular uprisings lies in the protest nature. Chang Bing protested the unfair attitude which local officials had adopted in dealing with affairs under the slogan of killing greedy officials, which symbolizes the strong protest spirit. After the Chang Bing Incident, large and small popular uprisings still occurred continually in Taiwan in Qing dynasty rule; moreover, the frequency of the popular uprising occurrence was even higher than that before the period of Chang Bing Incident. Therefore, the thesis makes use of the case, Chang Bing Incident, to explore the property and the factors of the popular uprising. The thesis holds the methodology of history research; that is, the basic faces of problems are induced and concluded by reconstructing and analyzing the historical events. As for the structure of the thesis, the first chapter is about the introduction and the second chapter states where and when the Chang Bing Incident took place. Its factors are analyzed and investigated in four aspects, namely, the influence of natural disasters, the corruption of government offices in Taiwan, the defects of the army system, and the restriction and characteristics of immigration. The third chapter introduces the process and the result of the Chang Bing Incident by collecting and inducing the historical materials and reconstructs the historical truth of the case to promote the main significance and property of the Chang Bin Incident. The fourth chapter gives an examination and a comparison of the Chang Bing Incident. In the beginning, it analyzes the factors resulting in the failure of Chang Bing Incident and how the Qing government dealt with it during and after the incident. At last, it mentions the Shy Jeou Duann Incident because it resulted from the inappropriateness of administrative measures and the incompetence of the court’s officials, which bears a lot of resemblance to the Chang Bing Incident. Therefore, comparing the Chang Bing Incident with the Shy Jeou Duann Incident can be expected to see some linear results. The last chapter is about the conclusion. In addition to summarizing the main points of each chapter, it also provides some guidelines for future research. none 鄭政誠 學位論文 ; thesis 161 zh-TW
