Schools promoting voluntary story-telling activities not only lighten schoolteachers’ workload, enhance students’ learning effects, but also provide a lifelong learning chance for the community people. It indeed is very meaningful.
This research is aimed at investigating the relationships between the story-telling volunteers’ backgrounds、their motivations for participation and the degree of satisfaction towards the work in primary schools. The objectives are:(1)To understand the present condition of voluntary work participation of story telling volunteers.(2)To probe into the factors of the participation motivations and job satisfaction of the volunteers from different backgrounds.(3)To discuss the relations between school volunteers’ motivations for participation and the degree of satisfaction towards their work.(4)To investigate whether the background of the volunteers and their motivations for participation can effectively provide a foresight of the degree of satisfaction towards their work.(5)To submit conclusions and suggestions according to the result of research.
To achieve the goal of the research, firstly, related documents and records were collected, analyzed and verified for the argumentation source of the research; secondly, a total of 352 copies of the questionnaire were sent to the volunteers from public elementary schools in Tainan area, and 263 of which is valid. According to the research, conclusions are as below:
1. The background of each school story-telling volunteer shows a great amount of similarities with one another; further more, the volunteers’ motivations for participation and the degree of satisfaction are affected by the factors of different personal background.
2. The school story-telling volunteers commonly have a strong motivation for participation and show a fairly high degree of satisfaction towards their work. A close correlation was found between the volunteers’ motivations for participation and the degree of satisfaction towards their work, and to some extent, the differences of the volunteers’ backgrounds and motivations indeed provide a foresight of the degree of satisfaction towards their work.
Suggestions are proposed as below:
1. The administrative organizations ought to plan and establish an efficient system, humanitarian management, and publicize the plan.
2. Schoolteachers should respect and help with the work that the volunteers do as well as communicate with them, also keep a good relationship with the volunteers;relatively, the volunteers should response their needs, participate learning courses actively and achieve oneself.
