The research method mainly applied questionnaire method. It took 212 elementary school principals as sample, and the returned questionnaire was 212 copies. After getting rid the invalid questionnaire, there were 209 valid questionnaires with 100% returned rate. Then it applied the average number, standard difference, etc., statistic analysis to understand the present situation of the work pressure and adaptation strategy of the test takers. At last, have the comments of six principals through interview method to make up the insufficiency of the questionnaire. According to the statistic analysis to get the following results: 1. The biggest work pressure of the current elementary school principals is the “Principal choosing system”, next are: “role expectation and internal conflict”, “workload”, “resource integration and distribution”, “teaching, training and guidance”, as well as “handling interpersonal relationship”. 2. When the current elementary school principals facing the work pressure the most often used adaptation strategy is “logic thinking”, next are: “problem solution”, “search for support”, “emotion adjustment”, “back to be a teacher or retired”, and “emotion escape”. 3. The work pressure of the male elementary school principals is higher than that of the females. 4. Female elementary school principals used much positive adaptation strategy such as: problem solution, logic thinking, search for support, emotional adjustment, while male elementary school principals often used negative adaptation strategy such as: emotion escape, and back to be a teacher and retired. 5. The elementary school principals who are more than 61 years old feel the biggest work pressure. 6. The elementary school principals who are under 40 years old most often use problem solution, logic thinking, search for support, emotion adjustment, etc., positive adaptation strategy. 7. The higher the educational background, the lower the work pressure of the elementary school principals. 8. Different educational background principals used adaptation strategy at different frequency. 9. The elementary school principals who work more than 13 years feel the biggest work pressure. 10. The elementary school principals who work less than 4 years most often used problem solution, logic thinking, search for support, emotion adjustment, etc., positive adaptation strategy. 11. The elementary school principals whose schools have more than 61 classes feel the least work pressure. 12. The school principals who have 25 to 48 classes most often use logic thinking, search for support, emotion adjustment, etc., positive adaptation strategy. 13. The elementary school principals at remote area faced higher pressure on principal choosing system than that of the urban area and rural area. 14. The elementary school principals at remote area most often use logic thinking, search for support, emotion adjustment, etc., positive adaptation strategy. 15. According to the interview results on six principals, most principals thought principal choosing system had much pressure, and they all thought the political power will interfere the principal choosing; while the existed allocation and moving system make the principals feel being respected and meet the ethical fair and justice principle. Finally, it has come up with this research conclusion based on the research results and to offer the related suggestion as future reference for principals and the educational authorities.
