Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺中師範學院 === 教育測驗統計研究所 === 91 === 英文摘要 The material of area is one of the most familiar and practical experiences in daily life of the primary schoolchildren. The concept of area should be easy to be learned. However, we can find that, in the practice, primary schoolchildren’s concept is very weak. Therefore, the object of this research is the study of the concept of area for primary schoolchildren of the sixth grade in Taipei City. This study is based on the guidelines of Mathematics on the ability of area, in the first and second stage of the Nine-Year Integrated Mathematical Curriculum. The random sampling is applied to the primary schoolchildren in the sixth grade in four elementary schools located in Taipei City. Totally 344 samples are analyzed. The conclusions are: 1. Only 40 percent of the analyzed can complete estimate for area and integral conversion for units of area. It means the weakness of the sense of area. 70 percent of the analyzed, at least, complete other concepts of area; apparently the performance is better. 2. On integral conversion for units of area, the performance of the girls is not as good as boys’. There is no apparent difference between the boys and the girls in other concepts. 3. The education background of the parents affects only in indirect comparison for area, the four fundamental arithmetic and simplified multiplication for area of the rectangle. There is no difference in other concepts. 4. In the indirect comparison and the multiplicative arithmetic of area, the performance of the low-achievement students is worse than the high-achievement ones, and the difference is apparent. 5. The achievement on Mathematics and the self-confidence affect the performance on area; high achievement and strong self-confidence bring better performance. According to the study, we also present some suggestions for the teaching, the design of the course and the research as reference.
