The sample, totally 331 valid samples, was from three elementary schools in Taichung County. The “conceptions of probability test” was developed by the researcher. By the testing tool, the researcher investigated the relationship between pupils’ conceptions of probability, meta-cognition, communication of problem-solving, and analyzing the pupils’ answering types on the test. According to the data analysis, the results were as follows: 1.The test was well-designed in terms of difficulty, discrimination, reliability, and validity. 2.The performance on “part-whole test” is better than the performance on “law of large number test”. 3.The better performance on “likelihood judgement test”, ”part-whole probability judgement test”, “law of large number test” and whole test, the better of meta-cognition was. 4.The better performance on “likelihood judgement test”, “part-whole probability judgement test”, “law of large number test” and whole test, the better of communication of problem-solving was. 5.The fifth grade and the sixth grade pupils’ probability performances on “likelihood judgement test” have no variation. 6.The fifth grade and the sixth grade pupils’ probability performances on “part-whole probability judgement test”, ”law of large number test” and whole test showed a variation. 7.The fifth grade and the sixth grade pupils’ performances of meta-cognition on “likelihood judgement test” have no variation. 8.The fifth grade and the sixth grade pupils’ performances of meta-cognition on “part-whole probability judgement test”, “law of large number test” and whole test showed a variation, the sixth grade pupils are better than the fifth grade pupils. 9.The fifth grade and the sixth grade pupils’ communication of problem-sloving performances on “likelihood judgement test” have no variation. 10.The fifth grade and the sixth grade pupils’ communication of problem-sloving performances on “part-whole probability judgement test”, “law of large number test” and whole test showed a variation, the sixth grade pupils are better than the fifth grade pupils. 11.The correlation between conceptions of probability and meta-cognition is significant. The correlation coefficient is .777.When we use meta-cognition to predict the conceptions of probability, the amount of explanation is .60. 12.The correlation between conceptions of probability and communication of problem-sloving is significant. The correlation coefficient is .871. When we use communication of problem-sloving to predict the conceptions of probability, the amount of explanation is .76. According to the results and findings of this study, some recommendations could be provided for teaching, teaching material design, and future study . Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between conceptions of probability, meta-cognition and communication of problem-solving. The sample, totally 331 valid samples, was from three elementary schools in Taichung County. The “conceptions of probability test” was developed by the researcher.
