The development of tilling and cultivating equipments in the sugarcane fields of Taiwan can be categorized into four stages. The first stage, in the sixteenth century, the cattle plow was not used yet, hand hoes and knives were the only cultivating tools in the sugarcane fields. The second stage, from the seventeenth century to the end of Ching Dynasty, cattle plough, hoes, shovels and harrows were imported form the Mainland China, and used in the sugarcane fields. In the third stage, Japanese traditional ploughs, west plough, and steam plow were imported to Taiwan during the period when Taiwan was occupied by Japan. Following the Taiwan Restoration, tractors were used extensively, and farming machines were stepping into the modern age. New sugarcane farming machines were introduced in each stage continuously, and with improved cultivation technology, the cane sugar yield continue to raise, finally become Taiwan’s major agriculture products for exportation.
The research shown that, on the, a centripetal partial force will drive the implements back to the correct forward route. Because of the automatic stability, the Chinese traditional cattle implements can be operated easily. On the, the deviation will induce a deviated force, the deviation will continue to expand, if the force was not corrected immediately. The pushing-type implements such as bulldozer required more skill to operate due to lacking of automatic stability. The front mounting type implements for tractor also need ground wheels to control the depth.
