The purpose of this study is to explore the demand of the junior high school students’ parents in Kaohsiung City for the parenting education. To understand the parents’ needs for the contents of the parenting education, the motive of attendance, the reason of obstruction, and the requirement of the proceeding. Also to explore the different background parents’ and students’ different needs for the parenting education. In order to achieve this goal, firstly, the research used documentary analysis to understand the basic concept and relative study of parenting education as the basis of the theory and the foundation of organize study instruments. Secondly, the research used 1543 junior high school students’ parents in Kaohsiung City as the object of the research distribute questionnaire, also to use the statistics to analyze these data. The results are as follows:
1. The junior high school students’ parents in Kaohsiung City commonly think the content of the parenting education is needful. And the need of “guiding children to bring up their ability of handle crisis and self-security” is the highest.
2. The main motive of the junior high school students’ parents in Kaohsiung City attend parenting education is hope to obtain and exchange the information, not the motive demand.
3. The main reason obstructing the junior high school students’ parents in Kaohsiung City attend the parenting education activity is their lack of time.
4. The highest demand of the requirement of the proceeding of the junior high school students’ parents in Kaohsiung City is “the communication between parents and teachers.” The most demand method is “using family contact book”
5. The demand for the contents of the parenting education of the parents affected by the background of “education level” and “family structure” of the parents, and “grade level”, ”if took refresher course in elementary school”, “if learning accomplishment in junior high school” of the students.
6. The motive that parents attend the parenting education has obvious differences caused by the “position”, “education level”, “hour and character of work”, “source of family income.” For their children, the obvious differences of the motive were caused by the “grade level”, “satisfaction of achievement”, “torment level of overindulge the computer”, “learning accomplishment in junior high school.”
7. The reason which intercepts parents attending parenting education has obvious differences caused by the “position”, “age”, “education level”, “hour and character of work”, “source of family income”, “family structure”, “satisfaction of achievement of their children”, “torment level of overindulge the computer”, and “learning accomplishment in junior high school.”
8. The demands of the proceeding have obvious difference caused by the “age”, “education level”, “hour and character of work” of the parents, and the ”sex”, “grade level”, “satisfaction of achievement”, “torment level of overindulge the computer” of their children.
According to the consequences of this research, we offer some suggestions to the education administration for the reference of practicing parenting education.
