Abstract
This study explored the gay identity process of five male adolescents in senior high school. Transcripts of the interviews were used to understand their identity stories. The researcher used “holistic-content” and “category-content” which were two approaches of narrative analysis to analyze the stories. Four aspects of the gay identity process were thoroughly discussed in the study:
1.)Background, including the family structure and atmosphere and relationships with parents, siblings, and peers;
2.)Sexual orientation awareness, including gender awareness and the attitude toward the sexual orientation;
3.)The experience of coming out;
4.)Hopes for the future.
In addition, a few suggestions based on the findings of the study were provided for those who intend to investigate similar topics as well as counselors and educators.
