A multiple baseline design across settings was used. Three individuals with mental retardation, one male and two females, aged over eighteen, from a restaurant of a social welfare institution, served as subjects. The training program was designed based on the interpersonal problems frequently encountered in the site, including interactions with a job training teacher, co-workers, and customers. The individuals were trained with materials of videos and photos, and assignment sheets, through the strategies of narration, guidance, discussion, demonstration, and role-playing. Interpersonal problem solving abilities of individuals, including recognition of problem, generation of alternatives, evaluation, and lingual and non-lingual performance, were assessed by observation and interview at both of training and working settings to examine if the training was effective. The results indicated that the training led to positive outcomes for interpersonal problem solving abilities of three subjects at both settings. After traced for weeks, the abilities were maintained. The findings were interpreted as strong support for the interpersonal problem solving training to individuals with mental retardation. Limitations and future applications were also discussed in this thesis according to the results. Wen-Ing Niew 鈕文英 2003 學位論文 ; thesis 250 zh-TW
